It seems these days that we just start one month and all of a sudden it’s the next.  Time moves so quickly, that it can be easy for things to stay on the ‘to do’ list for a lot longer than we would all like.

Just as life moves quickly, so too does business and often if we don’t make the time to put in place goals, and action plans, we can easily look back in 12 months and notice that not much has changed.  I can’t tell you the number of times I’m speaking with new clients who still have items on their ‘to do’ list from two to three years ago, it’s not that they aren’t engaged with their business and it’s needs, it’s merely that business gets in the way of ticking the items off.

This past year I’ve started working more closely with clients putting action plans in place.  The majority of my role is to facilitate regular planning sessions and then follow up periodically to make sure that everything is going to plan and if I’m needed to perform any specific task or give advice that I’m on hand.  The compounding effect that clients have experienced by putting aside 2 hours every 3 months to plan is amazing – each and every client comments that they can’t believe what they have achieved since we started this approach.  It’s not overly complicated, but merely choosing a project, planning out the action steps and timelines and having someone check in with you really pays off.  Knowing what you need to do and seeing it as achievable brings focus to the daily and weekly tasks that drive your business forward.

For myself, I love getting more involved in my clients’ businesses.  Meeting and planning out their projects gives me a greater insight into how their business runs, the key drivers of success and allows me to contribute more ideas and suggestions.  In short, knowing my clients more intricately helps me to deliver even more value and perform my role better.  Seeing clients achieve their goals also energises me (and them) and allows us each to aim higher and think bigger.
